1. Sandra Ávila Beltrán
Born on October 11, 1960, Sandra Ávila Beltrán earned herself the nickname “The Queen of the Pacific” after becoming the new leader of the Mexican drug cartel. She had two husbands that were both ex-police turned drug traffickers who were eventually killed by hitmen she hired. Sandra Ávila Beltrán was always very careful and made sure she never left any evidence or police suspicions surrounding her behind, this was until her son was kidnapped in 2002 with a $5 million ransom for his safe return. Police began an investigation after her son was returned and out of harm’s way.
She was charged with organized crime and drug trafficking offenses in 2007. Some of her charges were dropped as her trial progressed and she ended up only being charged for money laundering and possession of illegal weapons. She described herself as a housewife that made her money selling clothes, none of the officials believed her and she remains behind bars today.
